Distinctly Danville 4th of July

sweetestvintage

The largest Independence Day parade in the San Francisco Bay Area, is in the small town of Danville, CA. Thanks to our friends at Sweet Street Candies, we were able to attend, and set up an outreach table for our client D.A.R.E. America, and their newly reformulated curriculum.

What is wonderful about Danville 4th of July, is the quirky traditions that surround it: With 40,000 expected in attendance, families chalk out space for their chairs along the 1+ mile route of the parade, two days prior! The night before, dads go to lay out chairs, and label them with the family's name.

The parade it's self is an eclectic mix of homemade floats, classic cars, live bands, marching bands (including the combined marching band of rivals San Ramon Valley High School, and Monte Vista High School), dance performances, grocery shopping cart choreography, and martial arts demonstrations.

110 local groups are represented, thanks to the hard work of the San Ramon Kiwanis Club: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Churches, Non-profits, Teen Esteem, and and occasional local politicians. Chances are, if you live in Danville, you're in the Danville 4th of July Parade; and if you're not, you're in the chairs watching it.

The parade runs for 4 hours of homemade patriotism, packed with many smiling faces, and flying candy: Plenty of time to run into all your favorite neighbors.

We at Golden State Events are always excited to be a part of local traditions, and were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Danville: By the end of the parade, we'd raised enough for 10 classrooms to receive the new D.A.R.E. program.

Thank you so much Danville!
